Welcome!

Inspired by Walt Whitman and the writers of the Constitution of the U.S., artist Marjorie Guyon has created a public art project with a social mission. Join in the conversation.

The project includes a series of ten works embodying the spirit of many different peoples and creeds: Incan, Kenyan, Mexican, Moroccan, Cherokee, Hindu, Hebrew, Creole, Arab and Russian. Each panel is a 6’8″ figure – a bit taller than human scale.  On each one, the phrase, “Have Mercy on Us,” is written in a different language: Cherokee, Chinese, English, Arabic, Hindi, Hebrew, Swahili, Latin, Russian and Haitian Creole.

As children, we sang My Country, ‘Tis of Thee and America the Beautiful.  The titles of the ten paintings carry that echo.

Nation of Nations, at its core, represents the fundamental principle that we all shoulder responsibility to form a more perfect union.
